School Closings
Byron Public Schools is committed to providing a consistent and safe school experience for all of our students and families. There are times when severe weather or emergency situations require us to change our schedules.
⚙️Process
The Superintendent works in collaboration with other professionals to ascertain conditions. This group includes; Byron Public Schools transportation department, regional superintendents, National Weather Service professionals, local weather forecasts, local first responders and/or Department of Transportation officials to assess current conditions. Efforts are made to make a determination as early as possible to provide time and opportunity to families for planning.
At the latest, a decision will be made by 5:30am before a school day. We will work to communicate the decision as quickly as possible to the district. If there is a two-hour late start, further decisions on closing the school for the entire day would be made by 7:30am.
Participating families in Pre-school and Project Kids will be advised of their status through the Community Education department.
