OFFICES

The election of a chairperson and secretary will be held at the organizational meeting in September. The secretary is a paid position, with the stipend specified in the Master Agreement between the BEA and the Byron School District.

DUTIES OF THE CHAIRPERSON

A. Call and conduct meetings
B. Notify committee members at least five days prior to a meeting
C. Prepare meeting agenda
D. Sign necessary forms
E. Serve as the official contact person
F. Vote on any question before the committee

DUTIES OF THE SECRETARY

A. Keep minutes of meetings
B. Handle correspondence and announcements
C. Maintain relicensure records
D. Submit copy of local guidelines to state director of licensing every five years and when major changes are made
E. Chair the committee in the absence of the chairperson
F. Provide faculty members with local guidelines
G. Provide faculty with a list of current continuing education committee members
H. Verify committee membership each year with the Board of Teaching

COMMITTEE DUTIES

A. Set rules for its own operation and establish written guidelines

B. Verify that experiences provide professional growth

C. Grant clock hours in one quarter (1/4) hour increments

D. Act within a reasonable time on clock hour requests and relicensure applications

E. Provide recommendations about in-service needs to the district administration

F. Provide supporting evidence to the Board of Teaching when an appeal is taken from a local decision

G. Evaluate procedures and criteria for granting clock hours and recommend modifications to the director of licensing

H. Hold an open meeting annually to review guidelines
1. Time, date and location will
be published in the Byron Review and/or The 531
2. A working draft and any proposed revisions shall be made available prior to the meeting
3. All local committee members should be present
4. The meeting shall continue until all persons who wish to speak have had opportunity to do so
5. Although input received at the open meeting is not binding, the committee will consider changes consistent with licensure rules

I. Provide services and reports that may be required from time to time by the Board of Teaching

J. Listen to appeals

K. Consider preapproval requests for travel experiences.

L. Accept clock hours already granted by another district's Continuing Education committee when transferred by a teacher to Dist. 531

M. Authorize the transfer of clock hours to another district upon request
