As part of the 125 clock hours required to renew a five-year teaching/related services license the MN Legislature requires teachers to include experiences in specific areas. The Byron Continuing Education Committee has set 2 clock hours as the minimum needed to satisfy this requirement in each of the following areas:
1. positive behavioral intervention strategies
2. accommodation, modification, and adaptation of curriculum, materials, and instruction
3. key warning signs for early-onset mental illness (1 hour) in children and adolescents and suicide prevention (1 hour)
4. reading preparation
5. technology - aimed toward the integration of technology to effectively impact student learning by increasing student engagement and achievement.
In addition, each applicant must submit to the local continuing education committee a written reflective narrative of his or her professional accomplishments and includes a self-assessment of his or her professional growth. This statement MUST include a paragraph addressing best practices when working with English language learners within your classroom.
